United States of Distraction

Student filmed and produced with Project Censored, "United States of Distraction: Fighting The Fake News Invasion" (2020) features critical media literacy experts, students, and media makers who provide a dynamic understanding of so-called “fake news.” Influenced CIA whistleblower Ralph McGehee's notion that today's fake news is tomorrow's fake history, the film deconstructs this concept, reminding viewers that fake news is nothing new, but instead another form of propaganda. Edited and narrated by Abby Martin of The Empire Files, the film offers solutions to fight the pernicious influence of misinformation and disinformation on America’s democratic institutions.
