Pamela Messal had a long, storied, and troubled history with the USDA Forestry Service, Western Region. Known as an exemplary employee as a superintendent with the Black Mountain Hotshots, she experienced numerous indignities because of her gender: sexually and verbally harassed, stalked, suspended, and investigated on multiple occasions on trumped up charges. She is an exemplar of both the best and the worst of the Forestry Service.
