“Rather fail with honor, than succeed by fraud.”

Sophocles, Greek tragedian

International Fraud Awareness Week is in full swing!

The annual event, which is observed globally every November, began on Sunday November 17th and concludes Saturday the 23rd. Whistleblower Summit & Film Festival continues its support for Fraud Week. Like WSFF, Fraud Week uses education, knowledge, and pure determination to expose and combat fraud. During the course of Fraud Awareness Week, WSFF will also present a special Encore Presentation of our 2024 Film Festival event screenings.

During International Fraud Awareness Week, organizations from all over the world pledge to enhance awareness towards fraudulent practices that plague their workplaces, communities, and other institutions. Led by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Fraud Week was designed to minimize the impact of fraud by promoting anti-fraud awareness and education.

Fraudsters are known for committing unethical or illegal acts that could otherwise damage a business financially or reputationally. Statistically-speaking, fraud caused a total loss of more than $3.6 billion, based on 2,110 reported occupational fraud cases (Occupational Fraud 2022: A Report To The Nations). These losses are unacceptable risks for businesses worldwide. Fraud Week campaign specialists look to prevent further fraud cases from progressing and worsening. All week long, the campaign utilizes presentations via webinars, lectures, and interactive investigation scenarios to help educate professionals in protecting their workplaces from fraudulent acts.

WSFF sees a strong kinship with Fraud Week, as their campaign dedicated to exposing fraud through educational resources closely parallels our cause. In a recent interview conducted by our affiliate, Haydenfilms Institute, we discussed Fraud Week’s great work with John Warren, Chief Strategy Officer at the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. In this interview, Warren discussed the importance of speaking up when fraud and other occupational wrongdoing is occurring at the workplace, a sentiment that mirrors the efforts of whistleblowers. Warren also gave positive praise towards the Whistleblower Summit & Film Festival for our ongoing support towards Fraud Week ( Interview: John Warren, Chief Strategy Officer of Association Fraud Examiners.)

In concurrence to Fraud Week, WSFF also recently contributed to the Environmental Justice Initiative. Dr. Allan Savory, President of the Savory Institute and environmental activist, collaborated with WSFF at this year’s Summit to strengthen public awareness on crucial issues. These included  improving climate change, supporting minority farmers and workers, protecting the ecosystem, advocating  for women’s rights in the Forestry Service, and more. Just as we support Fraud Week, WSFF reaffirms our commitment to protecting the environment through Dr. Savory’s work, which directly contributed to the launch of the Environmental Justice Initiative.

In honor of both Fraud Week and the Environmental Justice Initiative, WSFF encourages all like-minded social justice enthusiasts to explore and volunteer with these unique causes. Our organizations cannot thrive without the support of individuals dedicated to raising public awareness of these causes, which will ultimately benefit those affected by these issues.
